A Girl Named Patches...Part 23

Heath would quit his job at the coal mines. Can't say I blamed him, they wanted him to climb a thousand feel over the mine hole and do some painting. Well, ok, maybe not that high but way up there. He refused and took his stuff and left. But, this would give him time to meet others and Heath loved boxing. He took his boxing gloves with him where ever he went in hopes for a match. And so he goes to a picnic and with a group of people there that he knew from the local bar, he found some that would box with him. Since he was very good at this he of course won. But, these guys would not walk away happy. Several of them took to beating him this night and all night. There were several men involved and one woman.

He came crawling in this morning and clearly in pain. Seems they kicked him in the back for a very long time. Oh, he was sooooooooo mad and wanted me to go after this woman that was a participant. Yes, he had me all physically fit from all the trainings which I was still doing but, I would not be a participant in this revenge. I had no interest in being any part of whatever he was doing out there.

Night time would come though and he would not let this settle. He wanted revenge and he went after it. Going the that local bar, he found all of them and one at a time he pulverized them. Seems he pounded their faces into gravel and well, whatever and however he did it, their eyes were sort of out of their sockets. Yes, he was extremely angry at them for the beating they gave him the night before. Now, this time he comes home early in the morning both of his hands are at least 5 times the size they should be. This would be from how many times he hit them. There were many. He was now finally content with the payback.

Prior to this time, my grandfather had passed away and now the other side of the house was vacant. Seemed odd not having him there. We would miss him greatly. We lived way out in the middle of no where pretty much. It would take hours for any emergency vehicle to get to us. Or so it seemed. But, it would take a long time. Everybody new each other there. There would only be two stores and little ones and a post office. So is that a town or a village?

For me I was re-doing my hair. I had dark brown and was taking it to a blonde color. Had to go through the orange cycle though to get there so I am sure I looked rather interesting to others. I was also focused on writing and I wrote for hours and hours on a cheap little typewriter I was able to get. My best friend that I met up with that lived across from where my Pa's family lived and the ones that took me in that one fateful night after that time with my Pa was always over. We would cook together sharing recipes and he was writing a play. So we exchanged a lot of notes and advice to each other.

Now for this next night coming after Heath's night out.....it would not go by peacefully as the men he hurt now wanted to hurt him again. But this time they wanted the whole family and they come for it. They would sit outside the house hiding, watching for all the activity going on. Heath and one of his friends decided to go for a ride and when they returned just as the sun was setting and they pulled into the driveway three cars came in behind them. As Heath went up to one of them there was a shot gun pointing at him. He reacted quickly, both him and his friend and ran into the house.

But.......................... These people were out to kill him and his family and there was no indication that they would be leaving any time soon.

To be continued......................

Love "Patches"
